THE THOUSAND AND ONE DAYS OF HAJI EDMOND
A former communist leader and activist for Moroccan independence, Edmond Amran Elmaleh left behind a prolific literary oeuvre in which he masterfully articulates personal and collective memory. This cinematic letter, addressed to the writer by director Simone Bitton, weaves together excerpts from texts, testimonies, archival images and the filmmaker's own words. The result is a portrait of an engaging and erudite man, haunted by tragedies such as the departure of Jews from Morocco and the exodus of Palestinians torn from their land, which he draws parallels between.
