The Brazilian Palestine [A Palestina Brazileira] (2019)
Origin: Palestine | Documentary | Director: Omar Luiz de Barros Filho | 79 minutes
The Rio Grande do Sul, marked by a strong ethnic and cultural divide, is home to thousands of Palestinians and their descendants. In Brazil, immigrant communities born from Nakba seek a new citizenship, full integration, the right recognition of their economic and socio-cultural contribution and, together, do not renounce to preserve their identity.
A Palestina Brazileira explores the lives of six Palestinian families, e pressing for prejudice, persecution and war. It shows how they live and relate to local communities, how they see the world of origins and the ethical and religious values of traditional culture, the situation of occupied Palestine today. Scenes taken in southern Brazil and the Middle East, stories, letters, photographs, shared memories, recall a past that continues to affect the present.
