Survivor (2020)
Origin: Palestine | Fiction | Director: Ehab Ghafri | 11 minutes
"Survivor” is an 11-minute short film that carries in its brief runtime a shock that transcends time and space. The film takes us on a wild journey between drama and documentary, between reality and imagination, revealing how a person lives with those they love in their mind, as if they were still alive, long after the guns have fallen silent. The film sheds light on survivors, on their hidden psychological wounds, and on the presence of loved ones in memory as if they were alive. Even on a zero budget, “Survivor” proves that a story can break the rules and create an unconventional cinematic experience, showing that love and memory are stronger than death.
"Survivor" follows the Palestinian Ehab and Shatha on their journey through the West Bank and their quest for adventure, love and inner peace. However, during their trip through the beautiful Palestinian nature and the lively Palestinian cities, they find physical and mental barriers on their way.
Although both grew up under the Israeli occupation, Ehab and Shatha experience things differently. Ehab bears the burden of growing up in Nablus during the second intifada, which creates distance between him and Shatha. Can they overcome their 'fear of life'?
The film was screened in Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Driebergen.
