Shanshula (2024)
Origin: Palestine | Documentary | Director: Musheir El Farra | 33 minutes
"Shanshula”, a local fishing-dialect term for a type of net used, tells the story of the Palestinian fishing community on the Gaza strip. The film features interviews with remarkable community members, including Palestinian fishermen and Madleen- the fisherwoman whose namesake vessel, the Madleen, tried to break the illegal siege of Gaza in June 2025 as part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. It is a poignant tribute to Palestinians with important footage documenting their suffering under the Israeli genocidal attack and forced evacuation from the North to the South of Gaza.
Director Musheir El Farra is an author, political activist and chair of the Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
