Hamule (2015)
Origin: Chile | Documentary | Director: Mauricio Misle | 50 minutes
Hamule
In audio and video tapes from the 1970s, I found poignant memories of my family in Palestine, bearing witness to a brutal episode of Israeli colonization in a land consumed by war and pain. Hamule explores how trauma is passed down "genetically" through generations of Palestinian descendants. The documentary is a personal and intimate journey through the fragmented memory of exiles in Chile and their families, as well as a space that celebrates the courage of Palestinians against the backdrop of the atrocities of contemporary Middle Eastern history.
Mauricio Misle has worked professionally in production and postproduction for over fifteen years. Apart from that, he has made independent films (Chilean Tango —2007—; Tanz Mit der Realität —2008—; 8 Horas —2011—; Hamule —2015—) and worked as a photographer for documentaries. He has been involved in numerous internationally collaborative projects along Argentina, India, Germany, and Finland which especially take on human rights and social justice issues. Misle sees his work as a possibility to explore other cultures, traditions, and topics of global interest; but above all, as an opportunity for social exchange on sensitive matters.
